The most exciting time of the ballet year is here as we begin to think about achieving the 
goals you’ve been working towards!
Examinations and Class Awards are a great opportunity to challenge yourself, work towards a goal, and receive some feedback from an independent observer. Simply Ballet offers RAD (Royal Academy of Dance) qualifications which are recognized internationally.
If you are interested in taking an Exam or Class Award in 2017, please read carefully through the information below.When? Late July/early August
Our exam day will be scheduled sometime from 24th July through 11th August. You will need to be available on the day for a few hours (approx 2-3) to get ready and complete your exam.
Entries close on May 29th 2017. Any information and payments must have been finalised by this point for you to be entered. An exact date will not be available until the RAD schedules all exams for our area. If there are dates you will not be available, these must be made known with your entry. It is likely to be a weekday that assessments will be held.
What? Class Award or Examination
Class Awards are shown in front of the Examiner, with your teacher in the room. A selection of the work you have prepared is presented along with a dance. You receive a summative report, certificate, and medal if successful.
Class Awards are open to students studying the RAD work at one class per week. At Grade 2 and 3 (8pm classes) as there is only 1 class per week offered, we are only able to offer the Class Award for assessment. At RS1 level (6:15pm classes), all work must be shown in the Class Award.
Examinations are shown in front of the Examiner without the teacher present. All work and a dance must be presented. You receive a mark sheet, certificate, and medal if successful. Students study the same RAD level twice per week may enter for an examination, or may instead choose the Class Award.
Cost?
Examination and class Award fees are set by the RAD as follows;
- Grade 2 Class Award – $81
- Grade 3 Class Award – $83
- RS1 Class Award – $TBA approx $30-$50
- RS1 Examination – $TBA approx $30-$50
How? Extra classes
We will be offering additional classes in the lead up to the exam session on a Sunday night for each level. You will need to be able to attend the majority of these classes alongside your regularly scheduled class. There will be a discounted package available that will cover these extra classes, as well as the fees to the RAD, and to cover music accompaniment and studio hire on the day. These classes will be instrumental in getting you prepared for the running of the exam/award and feeling confident with the work to be presented and are compulsory if you would like to sit an assessment.
